SERVING OUR SAVIOR (SOS) is an ecumenical ministry offering food weekly to those in need. The program was founded at Shepherd of the Hills and is now joined by eight churches —  Shepherd of the Hills, Good Shepherd Lutheran, Unity of Citrus County, House of Power, House of Peace, First Church of God, Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church FLCA, Joy and Praise Fellowship A/G.

The ministry is now housed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lecanto and is open 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday mornings.

Our year focused on our desire to feed people with fresh produce, meat, a balanced variety of canned goods and personal hygiene products.  We gave turkeys for Christmas, Thanksgiving and hams for Easter. In addition we gave out pet food, helped with dental care and supplied clothing.

We gave 337,421 pounds of food to 5940 families with 17,121 family members. This effort could not be done without your prayer and support. I wish each of you would stop by the food pantry and see first hand what you are doing. The kindness and love that permeates this ministry is a reflection of Christ presence among us.

We are distributing 25,000 pounds of dog food and 15,000 pounds of cat food annually. In addition through Meals on Wheels we are distributing an additional 15,000 pounds of dog food and 8,000 pounds of cat food.

We collect clothing that is donated and give it to our clients. If there is a surplus it is given to Pregnancy and Life and Family Resource Center.

Each week we supply a meal to Connections to feed 15 to 20 homeless people.

The dental program struggles to aide clients without insurance with the basics: extractions and fillings.  People with insurance are not eligible.

In 2016 we raised $76,584.19 and spent $76,576.55 on the items described here.

God bless, Thank you

From your SOS Ministry

A SPECIAL THANK YOU — An anonymous donor gave this cart for use at SOS.  He went around to all the food pantries and decided to donate the cart to the SOS organization.  He had been helped in the past and wanted to give back. The cart is worth about $ 3,000.
